A fun brush that is almost a toy, with a tiny doll that pops out the top. A traditional craftwork (as designated by Hyogo Prefecture) of Arima Onsen, one of the best hot springs in Japan. As these are today made only in the Haibukiya Nishida Brush Shop, they are very difficult to get without actually going to Arima Onsen. The barrel is wrapped in an established pattern of silk threads of many colors, and inside it is set a mechanism that causes a cute little doll to pop out the top when you pick it up to write with. Put it down again, and the doll will vanish back inside. Rainbow-colored items are said to act as charms against evil if you keep them with you, and so these are very popular as souvenirs.
