ambai items are finely crafted within Japan. An association of creators and designers make full use of regional features and skills finely toning the performance, materials, shape etc of an item. In this way, ambai aims to make items that are good for the user.

This rice bin created by the designer Makoto Koizumi and a tansu cabinet store is made of paulownia, a material which is used to make drawers. It has undergone unique, precise work which combines the handle of a tansu and a box. Paulownia has great insect repellent and temperature controlling effects. In hot and humid Japan, it creates an environment that will protect your important things. Also, this paulownia rice bin creates an environment suitable for rice, keeping it delicious.
[Fuchi Tenjikan]
Fuchu, Hiroshima Prefecture, is surrounded on 3 sides by mountains and has the Ashida River flowing through it. It is a production area blessed with nature. Furniture making began in this area around 300 years ago, around the end of the Genroku era of the Edo period. Skills have been passed down unbroken through generations and it became known all around Japan for its high quality and advanced techniques.
The basic premise of Fuchi Tenjikan is furniture that can be used for a long time in a good condition. Their items are made with the finest skills using wood that keeps the same state for 30-40 years. Carefully selected wood is used and special care is also taken in regards to advanced preparation, usage etc. By laying down pre-prepared timber over many years, the quality, color and grain can be read and taken advantage of - only the highest quality material is selected for use.

To make it easy to use, the lid opening has been made as wide as possible. With depth that will not get in the way when placed in a cupboard, you can compactly store 5kg & 10kg of rice.
Made of paulownia which is perfect for rice storage. The techniques of tansu cabinet manufacture have been condensed! Created using dovetail joints, paulownia material, a carved handle etc. The handle is walnut so dirt will be inconspicuous. The sliding door design takes up less space and is easy to use too.

[Handling Precautions]
*Before use, wipe off fine wood powder etc with a firmly wrung towel etc.
*Water will cause deformation so avoid washing.
*In order to bring out the characteristics of paulownia, it is uncoated. If dirt adheres, it may cause a stain.
*Paulownia is a soft material that scratches easily. Handle so that it is not subjected to strong impacts.
*A substance may appear on the surface due to the absorption of moisture. This is a characteristic of the material and not a problem.
*In order to keep on using for a long time, use in a place with low humidity.
*Capacity differs depending on the type of rice and grain size. As a guide, store 8/10ths.
*Do not use for any purpose other than its intended one.
[Handling Procedure for Bugs]
Small insects that aren't rice insects may invade the rice bin. These are a harmless nuisance that can be commonly found in places with lots of humidity. Please remove in the below manner.
*Carefully clean the inside of the rice bin with a vacuum cleaner.
*Brush the joints of the rice bin using sterilizing alcohol which you can buy at a drugstore. If the alcohol smell is a concern, dry in a well-ventilated place in the shade. The alcohol may cause the surface of the paulownia to fluff. If this concerns you, remove with fine sandpaper.
