This is a modified design from a brocade of the "Beaded Medallions Enclosing Four Mounted Lion Hunters" preserved in Horyuji Temple in Nara since the 7th Century. The original design consists of two pairs of kings mounted on horseback shooting lions that are asymmetrically arranged on either side of a flowering tree with a pearl roundel which is characteristic of the Sassanian Dynasty of Persia. The manufacturer has attempted to transfer the ambitious theme of this ancient brocade to a warp-patterned brocade, eliminating the flowering tree and depicting only one hunter and a lion, while adding a gorgeous blossom design at the corners.

The original product is a brocade that has a different kind of pattern compared to other fabrics of the Nara Period and it is thought that, as it looks like a lion with its mouth open, it was given the name of "Shikami", or "lion bite". Also, on the fabric's ground color, 2 colors or several colors are used in its warp, creating woven stripes called "Chohan". This is said to be one kind of brocade that has a multi-colored pattern.
