Buried in embers and fired in a climbing kiln on the floor directly below the opening for feeding fuel. A natural sangiri finish develops around the base touching the floor, while half molten ash forms a rough finish on the upper surface that resembles the texture of tree bark. The difficulty of producing unblemished and fine quality items via this method means that only a precious few are produced with each firing.
