Taking over the tradition of "Nara single-chisel carving doll", a 800-year old traditional craft from the ancient city of Nara, the sense of contemporary design and bright coloring is utilized to make this quality item with a modern taste.
Nara single-chisel carving dolls boast both a truth-telling bold design and entertainingly delicate finish. Modern touch is added to the attractive dolls so they will please more and more people.
[Nara single-chisel carving doll]
After originating from a children's toy, its carving gradually became bolder & bolder as it was used as an offering to Kasuga-Taisha Shrine. It is said it's boldly carved without minor decoration in order to show plain truth without shabby tricks.
Thanks to Toen Morikawa, a prominent carver from the Edo Period who added artistic delicacy to the doll, the doll became very popular in Nara as a symbol of power.
