A small kanzashi hair decoration with a silver ball given a cloud pattern.Kanzashi are traditional Japanese women's hair decorations. They saw the height of their popularity in the 18th and 19th centuries in the latter half of the Edo era , when specialist artisans flourished and poured their skills into a wide variety of fine pieces. In modern Japan they have tended to be part of traditional coiffures--such as those worn by geishas and brides--but in recent years they are taking center stage once more as young Japanese women adopt them into Western outfits to add a touch of grace and elegance.
