Tea Utensils from the Sumitomo Collection Spirit of Elegance of a Modern Tea Ceremony Master

(Chinese Bunrin Tea Container "Wakakusa")(Tsuishu Tray with Building and Figure Design)

Collection to understand the asthetic spirit of tea ceremony master Sumitomo Shunsui.

About 80 works of tea utensils from the collection of the 15th generation head of the Sumitomo family, Sumitomo Kichizaemon Tomoimo (alias "Shunsui") are displayed in this exhibition.
Tea ceremonies held by the Sumitomo family during the Meiji and Taisho periods included guests such as the Japanese painter Ueda Koho and the Noh actor Onishi Ryotaro. The utensils in the exhibit, which were used in these ceremonies, lets one feel Shunsui's deep knowledge of Chinese art. The exhibit especially has a fine collection of Chinese works.
Some exhibit items will be rotated.
